5/08/08 - Staff members lend a helping hand in New Orleans

Travel & Company staffers in New OrleansOn April 18th, four staff members packed their suitcases and boarded a plane for the Big Easy to participate in a service project put on by Tourism Cares for America. Tourism Cares for America is a nonprofit volunteer program that unites members of the tourism industry to help restore, care for, preserve and protect some of our nation’s most important tourism related sites.

Travel & Company and affiliate, ACIS, were thrilled to sponsor employees—Allison Read, Julie Strickland, Renee Ducharme and Scott Thibeau—to participate in this year’s annual event. Still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans is struggling to restore the many culturally and historically significant monuments, parks, neighborhoods and buildings that blanket the city.

Staffers rejuvinate Louis Armstrong ParkThe response to the volunteer efforts from both the community and the Tourism Cares organization was inspiring and powerful. Several local residents stopped on their way past the park to thank everyone for contributing to the restoration project, and to tell the volunteers that their efforts were important to them and to their community.

Travel & Company and ACIS were pleased to allow Allison, Julie, Renee and Scott to participate in this wonderful and rewarding experience. To see more highlights from the Tourism Cares for New Orleans event, by check out this video by journalist, Johnny Jet, posted on the Tourism Cares website.
