ACIS would like to take you to the New 7 Wonders of the World!
On July 7th, there was an official declaration of seven new wonders of the world. Not surprisingly, Travel & Company tours travel to four out of the new seven sites chosen— Travel & Company offers a tour to the Great Wall of China, a tour to Machu Picchu in Peru, four tours to the Roman Colosseum in Italy, and a tour to the Taj Mahal in India.

The idea for seven new wonders came from Swiss adventurer Bernard Weber, who noted that due to decay and destruction, many of the world’s cultural treasures are slowly deteriorating. He decided to raise awareness by creating the New 7 Wonders Foundation. Why seven? Seven is the magic number of items that people can remember without much difficulty. Bernard Weber wanted to ensure that people would remember the list. He aims to create a global memory with these new seven wonders, a list that will be uniform across nations.
Bernard Weber decided that to qualify as a world wonder, a site must:
have been built before 2000, be still standing, man-made, reflect the cultural environment and be aesthetically pleasing. He also strongly believes the sites should be stimulators; they should have a story and inspire people.
Back in January of 2006, the New 7 Wonders (N7W) panel, comprised of
world-renown architects, announced 21 finalist sites. Peoples around the world were asked to vote by telephone or internet for the sites they believe should be honored with the prestigious title of World Wonder. One and a half years later, all the votes were tallied and the winners were announced in Lisbon, Portugal on July 7, 2007 (7/7/07). With the New 7 Wonders campaign, the New 7 Wonders Foundation hopes to remind people of the importance of preserving our cultural heritage. The N7W motto is “our heritage is our future.” Fifty percent of all proceeds from the campaign will be used to preserve world heritage sites.
